They are fast approaching their eleventh wedding anniversary, but on Friday Danish royal couple Princess Mary and Prince Frederik looked as loved up as the day they married in May 2014.

The couple, who were seen touring Tokyo together, are enjoying a three day Japanese trip for the official opening of an exhibition about Greenland, named Spiritual Greenland.

And in honour of the host country, 45-year-old Mary was careful to don a form-fitting dress featuring a beautiful cherry blossom print.

The mother of four teamed the design, featuring images the nation's iconic flower, with a pair of pale pink heels which matched the tones of the short floral dress.

Keeping her accessories neutral, she carried a beige suede clutch and wore a pair of simple pearl earrings.

Her doting husband Prince Frederik meanwhile, looked dapper in a mud coloured suit with a blue and white striped shirt and navy tie which he wore with black shoes.

The couple were met by Japanese Princess Takamado and her daughter Princess Tsuguko as well as Greenland Prime Minister Kim Kielsen to perform a tape cutting ceremony. 

Following the exhibition they stepped aboard a cruise boat with Tokyo Metropolitan Government Governor Yoichi Masuzoe for their inspection of the planned sites for the 2020 Tokyo Olympic and Paralympic Games facilities.

They waved from the ship to the gathered press as they stood arm in arm.

The pair were also joined by the President of Tokyo Metropolitan Assembly and Danish Minister of Food, Dan Jorgensen.

Sunday for the couple will be all about sealskin when the Prince will visit fashion and design school Mode Gakuen, which has cooperated with Great Greenland and Kopenhagen Fur to introduce the pelt to new Japanese designers.

Frederik and Mary have had to endure tough few months, thanks to a film which has been made about the Crown Prince's playboy past which focuses on when he was a young man and before they met.

It is set to be screened later this year.

A second program, this time being made for Australia's Channel Ten, could also cause some discomfort, thanks to claims that Mary had had second thoughts in the lead-up to her 2004 wedding.

Princess Mary and her HRH Crown Prince Frederik famously met at Sydney's Slip Inn when the Prince was visiting Australia during the 2000 Summer Olympics.

Mary was born the youngest of four children to mathematician and professor John Dalgleish Donaldson and his first wife, Henrietta (née Horne), in Hobart.

Upon meeting the future king of Denmark, the pair conducted a long-distance relationship by phone and email, as well as writing letters, and Frederik made a number of discreet visits to Australia.

She moved to Europe in December 2001, while working as an English tutor in Paris, before the courting couple became officially engaged on 8 October 2003.
