It's a career milestone for many a star.

And with Dakota Johnson's debut as host of Saturday Night Live merely hours away, the actress was spotted shooting some scenes alongside the show's zany cast on Friday. 

The 25-year-old actress danced and cheered on an icy West Village street with many of the NBC show regulars including comedians Kate McKinnon and Cecily Strong. 

While there were no hints as to what the segment was about, the cast certainly appeared to be in a celebratory mood with colourful balloons and streamers strewn about.

Dakota wore black skinny jeans, knee-high boots and a chic grey coat which she tied at the waist with a belt.

Adding a pop of colour to the look were some bold blue gloves and matching silk scarf which didn't appear to look too warm considering the freezing East coast temperatures.

Dakota was seen in an SNL teaser earlier this week showing fans her comedic abilities in a variety of quick skits with show regular Taran Killam.

And no surprises many of the jokes revolved around her box office smash Fifty Shades Of Grey.  

The daughter of Melanie Griffith stars as naive college graduate Anastasia Steele in the film opposite Northern Irish actor Jamie Dornan, who plays the enigmatic corporate executive Christian Grey. 

According to Deadline.com, 50 Shades Of Grey became the US' biggest February opening of all time with an impressive haul of $93 million.

The hype around the film, which is based on the books by E.L James, saw some venues sell out as early as two weeks ago after film fans rushed to make advance bookings.

The 21 Jump Street starlet will next play Lindsey Cyr in the Whitey Bulger biopic Black Mass - hitting US theatres September 18 - with Johnny Depp, Benedict Cumberbatch, and Kevin Bacon.
