Siddiq Wahab is originally from Trinidad and Tobago. As a transgender female she has experienced a lot of the world’s meanness and prejudice.
But Siddiq says she is much more than what people perceive her to be and there are some sacred beliefs that have guided her along the way.
“I've always felt and perceived myself as a girl,” she said. “And have always just been myself so I never felt like I transitioned into anything other than becoming an adult. I also never knew that transitioning was even something that could be physically done.”
The hot weather and tropical climates of Trinidad and Tobago islands makes for an exquisite paradise. But local government and laws prohibit Siddiq from changing gender legally. At 19 Siddiq left her friends and family and headed 4,000 miles northwest and landed in the milder climate of California.

Her interest in fashion inspired her to enroll in Fashion Design College, and three years later she began hormone therapy. But Siddiq doesn’t look at the treatments as transitioning, “Although the world sees it as a part a transition from male to female, I see it as just a girl taking her vitamins... but of course it has brought physical changes and I’m very grateful,” she said.
Siddiq’s family has always known her as being extremely feminine. When she told them that she would be transitioning they weren’t too surprised. Her mother still needs a little help remembering which pronouns to use Siddiq says, but she is still respectful and amazingly supportive.
The recent plague of trans youth dying by suicide concerns Siddiq. She is troubled that these youth are being bullied beyond repair. But she wants to send a message to those that are feeling lost and alone in hopes that they will remember to be strong:
“I want everyone to know that their thoughts and feelings create their reality and you have the power to create the life you deserve,” she said. “Bullies and negative people are unhappy and only exist in a negative reality and that’s why they project negativity into the world, if you allow that to influence your reality then your life will start to not be in flow with the positivity of the universe.”
Laverne Cox, Janet Mock and Caitlyn Jenner are some of Siddiq’s heroes. She believes that the world’s attitude toward the transgender community is changing thanks to these trans pioneers, “I think the world is becoming more conscious that it doesn’t matter that atoms create your body and is just a material shell but that your soul is limitless and could be and do anything, and love all regardless of this material world.”
Siddiq a very passionate about fashion. She is working hard on designing clothing and accessories. She says that it is her destiny to create garments which will bring her an enriched life with people that will make a positive change on her path to fulfillment.
She hopes that children and young adults will never forget the positive light they bring to others, even though the world may sometimes seem dim and uncertain.
“I think it’s very important for young people to know their worth and how blessed and beautiful they all are ... If you always follow your bliss and be true to your soul you will achieve limitlessness,” she said.
